Most of Stanford's early 2019 offers are on the defensive side of the ball and the Cardinal's policy of "one offer for one spot" makes it unlikely there will be a flood of new defenders added to the list.

But just like the breakdown for possible offers on offense, there are some indicators of who may be next in line to get offers to play defense at Stanford.

Defensive line

Stanford already has offers out to several elite defensive linemen. Kayvon Thibodeaux, Zach Harrison and Faatui Tuitele each have offers and are uncommitted. Christopher Hinton has committed to Michigan.

It's possible that by the time their junior seasons end that all four 2019 St. John Bosco players who visited July 28 for Friday Night Lights will have offers. Poti was joined on that trip by cornerback Chris Steele (offered), wide receiver Colby Bowman (offered) and tight end Jude Wolfe.

Poti didn't have pads to participate in the full contact drills, but he moved very well in non-contact work. His teammate and 2018 Stanford walk-on offer Sal Spina called Poti a "beast." Poti really enjoyed his time on campus is a name to follow through the fall semester.

Before he committed to Notre Dame Lacey shared with Cardinal Sports Report why he was seriously interested in Stanford. It seemed clear that he was a great fit off the field and he camped at Stanford June 20.

He left without an offer and announced a top six not long after that did not include Stanford. Notre Dame was doing well with Lacey from the moment they offered and was always an attractive option for the defensive tackle.

Spears visited Stanford for the June 21 junior day and arrived on The Farm after being offered by Cal the day before. The offer rate for Spears was slowed by a knee injury he suffered that will keep him off the field for his junior season. A number of schools are waiting to see him healthy next spring.

Stanford appears to be one of those schools but the Cardinal are still very prominent in Spears' thinking. Stanford may be tough to beat for the top student if they offer.
