2017 Raiders Draft Profile: RB Wayne Gallman

2017 Raiders Draft Profile

Name: Wayne Gallman

Position/School: RB/Clemson

Height: 6ft.

Weight: 212 pounds

Stats: 675 carries, 3416 yards (5.1 ypc), 34 TD (66 catches, 486 yards, 2 TD)

Running Style: During his time at Clemson, Gallman ran downhill with purpose. He meets linebackers with force. That is to say, Gallman gets behind his pads to bounce off tacklers. Despite weighing less than 220 pounds, he attacks the hole with burst. Operating out of the spread actually helps Gallman in the NFL. That is to say, the quick reads and decision-making forces a back to get the ball and go.

Agility: Gallman brings a sudden shoulder fake/cut to the play. Notably, he sells an inside cut by dipping his arm then breaking to the perimeter. Of course, this freezes most defenders as they expect the play to veer inside. Whenever Gallman gets the corner, he is fast enough to pull away from defenders.

Gallman possesses a highly effective spin move that he sets up with a short jab step. When he unleashes it, the move is compact enough as to not expose the ribs or torso to any unnecessary damage. In addition, the move erases any attempts of weak arm tackles.

Predictions:: Way too early 2017 NFL predictions

NFL Draft:: The five most polarizing prospects in this year’s draft class

Hands: Without a doubt, Gallman is an average receiver. To explain, look at his 7.4 yards per reception. He’ll catch the ball thrown his way on swing or flats passes. On the other hand, do not ask Gallman to run an intricate route tree of diverse patterns. It is important to realize that he’s a runner first and foremost.

Aggression: Gallman displays the drive that every successful back needs. He runs with anger and the need to churn out yards, especially after contact. Rarely, you’ll see Gallman stopped by first contact. His legs will keep moving and trudging forward. 212 pounds of not, Gallman mows down defenders in front of him. As a result, he lives for short yardage situations. That yard or two is as good as gained.

Raiders Fit: There is a great chance that Latavius Murray finds a new home in 2017. As shown above, Gallman could step in and fill Murray’s shoes immediately. Using him in a RB-by-committee will limit his carries and keeps Gallman fresh for the fourth quarter when the Raiders need to put the game away. In reality, he doesn’t have to be the star.
