2016 NBA re-draft has Sixers taking Pascal Siakam, Ben Simmons drops to 8
In the 2016 NBA draft, the Philadelphia 76ers had the No. 1 pick after yet another tough season as part of The Process rebuild. With that selection, the Sixers took the consensus pick in Ben Simmons out of LSU.
While Simmons is currently no longer with the team after he was traded to the Brooklyn Nets as part of the James Harden deal, he still had a lot of success in Philadelphia. He helped the Sixers to a top seed in the East in 2021, he made an All-Defensive First Team twice, he won Rookie of the Year, and he also was named to an All-NBA Team in 2020.
In a re-draft of 2016 by Fan Duel, the Sixers take Pascal Siakam No. 1 overall while they had Simmons drop to the No. 8 pick to the Sacramento Kings. It is pretty peculiar that they had Simmons drop that low considering his resume, but it is reasonable to say that the Sixers would probably take somebody else over Simmons when one considers the result.

It is interesting to think about how Siakam’s game would have fit next to Joel Embiid rather than Simmons. Siakam is a big man who can step out and shoot it with range, but the Sixers benefitted from Simmons pushing the ball in the past in order to get out in transition. Either way, it’s something to really think about.
