When Cadillac created a luxury sedan based on the proletariat-grade Chevy Nova for the 1976 model year and it sold like crazy despite costing more than the DeVille, Dearborn took notice. Soon enough, Lincoln had its own version of the Ford Granada: the Versailles. Here's a magazine advertisement for the 1979 model.

The Versailles didn't achieve anywhere near the sales success of its Seville rival, and so it was sold for just the 1977 through 1980 model years. Perhaps Lincoln should have pushed that Valino grain landau roof a bit more resolutely.
