13 Herald News high school baseball and softball games you have to see in 2024

FALL RIVER — With the spring season just days away, the Herald News dives into the 2024 schedules for six area high school teams.

Atlantis Charter, Case, Diman, Durfee, Somerset Berkley, Westport baseball and softball teams get set for another long season on their respective diamonds.

There are even a couple notable games in early April to keep an eye on. The Hilltopper baseball team will be tested early when it plays host to the two-time defending Division 1 state champion Taunton High. Meanwhile the defending Division 4 state champion Case softball team travels to face Elite 8 finalist and South Coast Conference opponent Dighton-Rehoboth. There's always also some exciting rivalries that can make for unforgettable games.

Here's a look at the matchups:

BASEBALL: April 3, Somerset Berkley vs. Seekonk, 4 p.m.

The South Coast Conference Blue Champion Somerset Berkley will be tested early as they face Division 4 state champion and SCC Gold Division champion Seekonk. The Raiders won the lone contest between the two clubs, 5-1 in May last season.

BASEBALL: April 4, Durfee vs. Taunton, 4 p.m.

After opening the season against non-league foe Middleboro, Durfee takes on another tough non-league opponent in Taunton, who became just the fourth team in Division 1 to win three state titles (2019, 2022, 2023) last season. The Hilltoppers dropped a pair of games against the Tigers in 2023.

SOFTBALL: April 5, Somerset Berkley vs. New Bedford, 3:45 p.m.

Division 2 semifinalist Somerset Berkley kicks off the season with a home matchup against non-league opponent in New Bedford. The Raiders took two games from the Whalers, including a high-scoring 19-15 contest last year.

SOFTBALL: April 12, Diman vs. Tri-County

The Bengals play a home game against Mayflower Athletic Conference champion Tri-County in the first of two meetings. Diman dropped both game against the Cougars last season.

SOFTBALL: April 15, Case at Dighton-Rehoboth, 3:45 p.m.

Division 4 defending state-champion Case hits the road for four of its first five games, including a matchup with Dighton-Rehoboth. Both teams split a pair of games, which the Falcons handed the Cardinals their only loss of the season.

BASEBALL: April 19, Atlantis Charter at Avon, 11:30 a.m.

Two Division 5 playoff squads — Atlantis Charter and Avon — go head-to-head in an early season matchup. The Tritons split their two-game matchup with the Panthers in 2023.

SOFTBALL: April 26, Westport vs. Diman, 3:30 p.m.

Two Fall River area teams — Diman and Westport —missed the postseason last year and will look to turn up the heat this spring. This is the first of two meeting between the Bengals and Wildcats.

SOFTBALL: May 1, Durfee vs. Brockton, 6 p.m.

The Hilltoppers take on league opponent Brockton under the lights in an early May matchup. Durfee swept both games from the Boxers last year.

BASEBALL: May 8, Case vs. Bourne, 3:45 p.m.

The Cardinals face Division 5 state-champion Bourne in the second meeting between the two teams. Case dropped both games against the Canalmen in 2023.

BASEBALL: May 13, Diman at Westport, 3:30 p.m.

It's always a fun matchup when these two Mayflower League opponent meet. Diman travels to Westport for the second meeting between the two teams. The Wildcats won both games against the Bengals in 2023.

SOFTBALL: May 20, Case vs. Somerset Berkley, 3:45 p.m.

It's the battle between two powerhouse South Coast Conference playoff teams in their lone matchup of the season. Case won both games against Somerset Berkley last season, including a tight 5-4 home win.

BASEBALL: May 22, Somerset Berkley vs. Durfee, 3:45 p.m.

This is a big non-league matchup between Durfee and Somerset Berkley that could determine playoff seedings.

SOFTBALL: May 24, Case at Norton, 3:45 p.m.

Case travels to Norton to face the Division 3 state finalist Lancers in a tune-up for the state tournament. This is the first meeting between the two schools.
