11 things to know about new Bills QB Kyle Allen

Here are 11 things to know about new Bills quarterback Kyle Allen:

Not related

Perhaps the biggest question of all: Are the two Allens that play quarterback for the Bills related? By most accounts they are not… but this Instagram post fooled people once upon a time:

Kyle Allen was born in March 1996. Josh Allen was two months later in May, hence the “young brother” joke.

But they're good friends

While the Allen QBs are not related, they are good friends and have been for awhile. Most actually already knew that when he signed.

The two Allens quarantined together during the COVID-19 pandemic and often are seen golfing together on social media. Jordan Palmer has worked with both of them during the offseason as well.

Here they are being buds working out with Palmer:

Allen began his career as an undrafted signee out of Houston after transferring from Texas A&M. He first landed with the Carolina Panthers before ending up with the Washington Commanders and Houston Texans, respectively.

But once upon a time, Allen could have played ball… anywhere. Out of high school, he was widely regarded by top recruiting sites as either the nation’s best or second-best high school quarterback in the class of 2014.

“I got phone calls from everybody from Nick Saban to you name it,” Tony Tabor, Allen’s high school coach in Arizona told the Washington Post. “There wasn’t really a place that Kyle couldn’t have gone.”

Will play into a nickname

Allen will play into a nickname. Whatever it might be. Such as… “Lovey Dovey.”

Here’s how Allen explained that one to the Panthers website:

“Greg Olsen comes out and goes, ‘Hey Kyle, I fell into a deep rabbit hole on your Instagram yesterday. And I’ve been dating my girlfriend for six or seven years now, and he scrolled all the way to the bottom and he said, ‘I probably saw about 100 pictures or you and your girlfriend. So, that turned into Lovey Dovey as a nickname. Of course, Cam [Newton] has to have a nickname for everyone, and it stuck.”

Teammates would even make a heart with their hands for him when he scored, so if Allen is ever doing this, that’s why:

Everybody loves Ryan Fitzpatrick in Buffalo. Is Allen among them? Probably, seeing as few people seem to dislike Fitzpatrick at all. Plus, what you came here for: They were teammates. In 2021, Fitzpatrick and Allen both suited up for the Washington Commanders.

Allen has a 7-12 record as a starter. Including in that is a 4-0 run in Carolina. In his career, Allen has completed 62.6 percent of his passes for 4,734 yards with 26 touchdowns and 21 interceptions.

Of that damage, none of it has come against the Bills. Allen has never faced Buffalo in his career.

But he’s been to Highmark Stadium. At least once. In 2021, the Bills routed the Commanders 43-21 and he was the backup that day.

Burger of choice

For some random fun stuff now… In-and-out? Five guys? Shake Shake is the one for Allen since he used to post about it on occasion back in the day:

Nearly hit a hole-in-one

While Kyle Allen and Josh Allen were golfing together, the new Bills QB nearly, just nearly, hit a hole-in-one. The video can be found below:

Has a podcast

Allen has a podcast. Remember how he worked out with Palmer? They also co-host “The QB Room.” Josh Allen has been on it before as a guest, but something tells us he might be even more now.

He has played quarterback a long time

Yes he has, indeed… a throwback of all throwbacks:

Used to getting to games in different modes

If the Bills have a game in 2023 where it required something like a snowmobile to get to the stadium… no problem by Allen. Alternate means of transportation is something he is very into.

Or at least he was into that in Carolina. He told the Panthers website once upon a time that he’d simply scooter to the stadium for practice and games.

Fans wouldn’t even realize who it was zipping past them.

“They’d have no clue,” Allen said.
