2GGaming has announced a year-long Super Smash Bros. for Wii U championship series, featuring a prize pool worth $100,000.

The 2GG Championship Series will feature 12 tournaments, or “Sagas,” over the course of 2017, beginning with Genesis Saga on January 14 (not to be confused with Genesis 4 taking place January 20-22.) Genesis Saga will take place at the eSports Arena in Santa Ana, California.

Similar to Street Fighter V and the Capcom Pro Tour, winners of each Saga will automatically qualify for the 2GG Championship in December. Players can also earn points on a leaderboard to earn a spot in the finale.

Smash 4 players will be vying for a total prize pool of $100,000. Half of that amount will be distributed to tournaments throughout the year, while the remaining half will go towards the 2GG Championship prize pool.

Traditionally, the 2GG Saga tournaments have featured player themes, such as the 2GGT: ZeRo Saga that took place last weekend. It is not clear if these player-themed events will continue to run separately or will be included in the 2GG Championship Series.
