10 takeaways from the Ravens’ first unofficial depth chart of the 2023 season

The Ravens are gearing up for their home opener in Week 1 against the upstart Houston Texans.

Baltimore released its first unofficial depth chart before Sunday’s matchup.

It’ll be the first start for Lamar Jackson since he suffered a knee (PCL) injury in Week 13 against Denver.

With the team returning to practice on Wednesday, here are ten takeaways from the first depth chart of the regular season.

Tie for backup spot

Lamar Jackson is the unquestioned starter, but with Tyler Huntley’s injury, Josh Johnson was listed as the Co-No.2.

J.K. Dobbins RB1

Dobbins is atop the depth chart, followed by Gus Edwards and Justice Hill.

Zay Flowers WR2

The rookie will be critical for Lamar Jackson, but he’s second-string on the initial depth chart.

FB outweights WR3

The Ravens will utilize 12 personnel (1 RB, 2 WR, 1TE) a lot of the time, but on the intial depth chart the fullback position holds weight over a third wide receiver.

Patrick Mekari

Mekari is the cross-trainer, and could see time at multiple spots.

Travis Jones

The former UConn star will be the primary backup at defensive tackle and at the nose tackle position, offering an elite run-stuffing presence.

David Ojabo over Clowney

The second-year pass rusher and outside linebacker gets the nod on paper over Jadeveon Clowney.

Will see how the snap count plays out for Sunday.

Rock Ya-Sin/Ronald Darby CB1

Two new additions to the roster are listed as the No. 1 cornerback opposite Marlon Humphrey.

Both players could be starters on Sunday if Humphrey doesn’t play.

Marlon Humphrey

Humphrey hasn’t been ruled out for the season opener and was listed as CB1.
