Here are 10 Iowa high school football games to watch and our predictions for Week 7

Six weeks of the Iowa high school football season have come and gone and, just like that, it’s on to Week 7.

By now, high school football fans have a pretty good idea about which teams could end up playing in the UNI-Dome, while there are still some tight races across all the classes.

Each week, we’re making educated guesses about the results of some high school games. We’re sticking to mostly central Iowa and Class 5A games but will throw in picks that draw statewide interest, as well.

Dowling Catholic junior running back Ra’Shawd Davis has had a hot start to his season, racking up 16 rushing touchdowns through six weeks.

Through the first five weeks, we went 41-18 in our predictions.

Last week, we picked 10 games and went 6-4. That’s a 47-22 overall record ahead of Week 7, and there are 10 more predictions this week.

No. 8 Ankeny Centennial at Des Moines Roosevelt

Both programs have 3-3 records, but Roosevelt has never beaten Centennial in football. Since the Jaguars have been successful on both sides of the ball, it doesn’t look like that win streak will end on Friday. Centennial, 42-7

Indianola at No. 10 North Polk

North Polk is super productive in the air; Indianola finds its offensive rhythm on the ground. The Comets lost to Ballard, 7-6, while Indianola beat that same team, 30-27. This one could come down to defense, making it all the more interesting. Indianola, 20-14

Iowa City Liberty at No. 7 Ankeny

Graham Beckman is pretty dang good at throwing the ball, but that doesn't guarantee a win for Liberty. Plus, Ankeny has been hot since losing to the top two teams in Class 5A. The Hawks should win this matchup. Ankeny, 30-17

Ottumwa at No. 9 Waukee Northwest

Between Sam Johnson and Maverick Inman’s connection on offense and a solid defense led by Harry Leinen, this looks like the Wolves’ matchup to lose. Northwest, 42-7

Urbandale at No. 1 Dowling

Urbandale running back Jaylon Brooks has more yardage than Dowling’s Ra’Shawd Davis, but the Maroons senior has more touchdowns. Davis has been difficult to contain, and the J-Hawks' defense will struggle against the West Des Moines powerhouse program. Dowling, 45-10

No. 2 Southeast Polk at No. 5 Waukee

Waukee has been one of the best team in Class 5A through the first six weeks of the season. But taking down Southeast Polk will be a massive challenge.
Waukee has been one of the best team in Class 5A through the first six weeks of the season. But taking down Southeast Polk will be a massive challenge.

Southeast Polk keeps finding ways to win, but some teams have made it interesting for the Rams. Waukee will be without one of its top linemen, which could hurt a Warriors team that has found its footing in recent weeks. Southeast Polk, 24-20

No. 2 Gilbert at No. 3 Bondurant-Farrar

Unfortunately for Tigers’ fans, this could be the week that Gilbert’s undefeated start comes to an end. Bondurant-Farrar hasn’t lost since dropping the season opener to North Polk, and the Blue Jays will (most likely) find a way to hold off Gilbert’s do-it-all man Will Hawthorne. Bondurant-Farrar, 48-7

No. 1 Central Lyon at No. 4 Western Christian

Stats-wise, these two programs are pretty close. But Reece Vander Zee and company have proven hard to beat, and Western Christian could struggle against an opponent that has dominated its competition. Central Lyon, 35-13

Prairie at Cedar Rapids Jefferson

The Hawks started off strong, before losing to Southeast Polk, Pleasant Valley and Ankeny. And both teams are looking to bounce back from a loss, with Prairie seeming to have the slight edge in this one. Prairie, 31-10

No. 1 Williamsburg at No. 8 Solon

Brett White is Solon’s standout on defense, but his team will have a hard time with two of their opponent’s defenders. Williamsburg boasts one of the top players in the state, Derek Weisskopf, and his teammate, Rayce Heitman, has been on an absolute tear. Williamsburg, 38-17
