10 high school games to watch this week in the Mid-Valley

The fall high school sports season is now in October and going strong with games, matches and meets throughout the week.

Here is a look at 10 volleyball, girls soccer, boys soccer and cross country matches and meets to watch this week in the Mid-Valley.

Tuesday — Sprague volleyball at South Salem

Sprague’s volleyball team will play at South Salem at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.

The Olympians lead the Central Valley Conference at 7-0 in conference play and 18-1 overall. As of Saturday night, Sprague was No. 2 in the 6A OSAA rankings.

“Things are going great. We are starting to really feed off each other and use our strengths,” Sprague coach Anne Olsen said. “I’m really proud that the girls are able to continue to find things to improve upon and be able to find new ways to be successful. Our bench is deep and we can pull from many players to get the job done.”

The Olys beat the Saxons 3-1 on Sept. 14. After Tuesday, they will face each other again at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 19 at Sprague.

The Saxons are in second place in the CVC at 6-1 in conference play and 11-5 overall. They were No. 9 in the OSAA rankings as of Saturday night.

“We’ve been playing pretty well. A few ups and downs along the way as pretty much every team, but overall the girls have been stepping up and playing the way we would like most of the time,” South Salem coach Matt Leichty said. “If we can continue to do a good job passing the ball and stay aggressive offensively, we have proven we have a chance with pretty much everyone. There are a lot of big matches and tournaments coming up the next couple of weeks, so we can hopefully stay healthy and leave our best matches out on the court as we get close to the end of the regular season.”

Tuesday — Sprague girls soccer vs. West Salem

Sprague’s girls soccer team will host West Salem at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

The Olympians lead the CVC with a 2-0 conference record and 6-0-3 overall record. As of Saturday night, Sprague was No. 12 in the 6A OSAA rankings.

The Titans are 3-3-3 overall and 1-0-1 in the CVC, and they were No. 38 in the OSAA rankings as of Saturday night.

Tuesday — Western Christian girls soccer at Amity

Western Christian’s girls soccer team will play at Amity at 4:45 p.m. Tuesday in a Special District 2 showdown.

Western Christian is 7-2 overall and 3-0 in the league, and was No. 17 in the 3A/2A/1A OSAA rankings as of Saturday night.

Amity is 6-1-1 overall and 1-1 in the league, and was No. 3 in the OSAA rankings on Saturday.

Tuesday — Woodburn boys soccer vs. Corvallis

Woodburn’s boys soccer team will host Corvallis at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday in a Mid-Willamette Conference matchup.

The Bulldogs are 6-1-1 overall and 2-0 in the conference, and they are No. 1 in the 5A OSAA rankings.

The Spartans are 5-0-2 overall and 0-0-1 in the conference, and they are No. 6 in the 5A OSAA rankings.

Tuesday — Central boys soccer vs. Silverton

Central’s boys soccer team will host Silverton at 7 p.m. Tuesday in a Mid-Willamette matchup.

The Panthers are 6-0-2 overall and 2-0 in the conference, and they were No. 14 in the 5A OSAA rankings as of Saturday night.

The Foxes are 6-2 overall and 1-1 in the conference, and they were No. 9 in the 5A OSAA rankings as of Saturday night.

Tuesday — Stayton boys soccer at Newport/Waldport

Stayton’s boys soccer team will play at Newport/Waldport at 6 p.m. Tuesday.

The Eagles are 5-1-1 overall and 2-0-1 in the Oregon West Conference, and they were No. 6 in the 4A OSAA rankings as of Saturday night.

Newport/Waldport is 6-0-1 overall and 2-0-1 in the conference, and they were No. 4 in the 4A OSAA rankings as of Saturday night.

Tuesday — Blanchet Catholic boys soccer vs. Taft

Blanchet Catholic’s boys soccer team will host Taft at 4:15 p.m. Tuesday in Special District 2 action.

The Cavaliers are 5-1-2 overall and 2-0 in the league, and they were No. 8 in the 3A/2A/1A OSAA rankings as of Saturday night.

Taft is 3-6-2 overall and 1-2 in the league, and they were No. 36 in the OSAA rankings as of Saturday night.

Wednesday — CVC district preview cross country meet

The Central Valley Conference district preview cross country meet will be Wednesday at Oak Knoll Golf Course.

All five CVC teams will participate — West Salem, North Salem, South Salem, McNary and Sprague.

Wednesday — Salem Academy volleyball vs. Blanchet

Salem Academy’s volleyball team will host crosstown rival Blanchet Catholic at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Salem Academy is 12-4 overall and 9-1 in the Tri-River Conference. As of Saturday night, they were No. 4 in the 2A OSAA rankings.

Blanchet Catholic is 11-6 overall and 8-2 in the conference, and is No. 10 in the OSAA rankings as of Saturday night.

Salem Academy beat Blanchet Catholic 3-0 on Sept. 18.

Thursday — Cascade volleyball vs. Philomath

Cascade’s volleyball team will host Philomath at 6 p.m. Thursday.

The Cougars are 12-3 overall and 4-0 in the Oregon West Conference. As of Saturday night, they were No. 5 in the 4A OSAA rankings.

Philomath is 6-6 overall and 3-1 in the conference. As of Saturday night, they were No. 11 in the 4A OSAA rankings.
