Taylor to return to Washington

INDIANAPOLIS - Despite an injury-riddled and disappointing season, Washington is expected to bring back defensive end Jason Taylor and not ask him to restructure his $8 million base salary for next season.

"We're not doing anything with Jason," Washington vice president of football operations Vinny Cerrato said. "He's going to be with us and that's it. That's the plan."

Taylor, 34, played in only 13 games with eight starts last season and was limited to 3 ½ sacks for the season. It was his lowest total since 1999, his third season in the league. That led to speculation that the Redskins would want to restructure his deal.

"When we went there, remember, they asked us for a two-year commitment," agent Gary Wichard said. "Well, we asked them for the same thing."

In addition, Taylor was limited to playing primarily at left defensive end, which is not what he is best-suited to do. Taylor spent the first 11 years of his career playing primarily right defensive end for Miami before being traded last offseason for a second- and sixth-round draft pick at the beginning of training camp after Washington lost Philip Daniels to injury.

There not idiots...If they restructure his deal, then they are letting him down and giving the 'skins a bad reputation. It's all good dude. Jason will be out of his mind this season.

Jason Taylor's best years are passed. At best he can provide some run support, but if we draft Brian Orapko from Texas, then I wouldn't mind seeing JT mentor him into a stud. That alone isn't a good enough reason to keep him on the roster.

I know something 3,4,and 5 can suck. Run support? He has never been a run stopper! When he makes it to the HOF , its not going to be because he was a run stuffer!

Orapko will not be around for the skins, I agree the skins need to get younger for both O & D lines. They should of restructured Taylor's contract to make cap room- Cerrato and Snyder are ruining the skins. They better get youth and size on the DL and youth on the OL.

they need to put him back at his natural position, RDE. IF YOU GUYS NO FOOTBALL, THAT WAS MISSTAKE NUMBER 1. Taylor is a way better puss rusher than a. carter. move that bum to strong side line-backer. I CAN BE THE G.M. FOR MY SORRY FRONT OFFICE REDSKINS

how are they out of their minds. they gave up a second round pick for him so they might as well get some more playing time from him. and he's still better than half the ends in this league.

lets hope a injury free offseason and strat of season will get his motor running...we need to get to the QB, and he is fairly well known for doing that....If they can draft Orakpo and use him as a hybrid, LB and de on passing downs...ill take that

If Taylor wasn't washed up, Parcells would have hung on to him in Miami. I'll put my money on Bill, you can put yours on Jason............although the Skins and Fins both suck................

The exchange for a 2nd round pick is history. What counts is JT is a year older, didn't perform last year, and may not be a good fit (if he doesn't play RDE). Is he worth $8M? I think it would only be ok to keep him if he renegotiates his contract for a reasonable price.

Hay Snyder I have something to tell you. You can not buy a Lombardi Trophy. Stop spending so much money on older players. Start using the draft to build your team.

I have been watching the skins since 1965 and they have never been this poorly managed. As long as Cerrato has control of the reins the skins will suck! Snyder is an egomaniac who needs a guy like Cerrato to tell him how great he is. They need to stop playing fantasy football and get somebody in there who knows what the hell he'sdoing!

The redskins need to release Springs, Taylor, Daniels, Griffith, Jansen and probalbly all the rest of the 32+ Redskins. They need to rebuild through the draft and free agency (back up offensive linemen, defensive linemen, and linebackers). I would also recommend they trade Campbell and Portis for several 2nd, 3rd and fourth draft picks.
