Zach Brown would help cure the Miami Dolphins linebacking woes

Already signing one new starting linebacker this offseason, the Miami Dolphins are trying to turn a weakness into a strength in 2017. Working on a long term contract for Kiko Alonso, the Dolphins also added former Steelers linebacker Lawrence Timmons to their roster this offseason. However, still in need of one more new starter, the Miami Dolphins could turn their attention to Zach Brown.

Having a breakout campaign in 2016, Zach Brown came out of nowhere as a member of the Buffalo Bills. Not even supposed to be a starter last season for Buffalo, Zach Brown recorded 184 combined tackles, four interceptions, and two defensive touchdowns last season. A playmaker for Buffalo last season, Brown also made the Pro Bowl roster for the AFC.

Possessing some good speed and the ability to play alongside Kiko Alonso and Lawrence Timmons in the Dolphins 4-3 defensive scheme, Brown is just coming into his prime. At only 28 years of age, Zach Brown still has more than a few good years ahead of him, making a deal for three-to-four seasons a good investment for this team.

The biggest issue at this point for Miami could be the competition. Having already visited with the Oakland Raiders, Zach Brown is someone that the Buffalo Bills want to bring back. While the Miami Dolphins could offer him an increased amount of cash compared to the other teams, Brown has a lot of options available for him.

With the linebacker position being the Miami Dolphins biggest position of need this offseason, the team would be smart not to wait until the NFL Draft to add one last starter. With many of the draft’s first round linebackers likely to go before Miami picks, the team could be forced to reach at its selection in order to facilitate a new starters arrival.

With other areas of need easier to address in the first round of the draft, the Miami Dolphins need to add their final starting linebacker during free agency. If the team can find a way to sign Zach Brown, the linebacking corps would not only be completed, but also vastly improved over 2016.
