Youkilis out again with back injury

The New York Yankees placed third baseman Kevin Youkilis on the 15-day disabled list Friday with a recurrence of a back injury, the team announced.

Youkilis has a lumbar strain that kept him out of action for nearly a month earlier this season.

The 34-year-old Youkilis, who is in his first year with the Yankees, had numbness in his right foot after waking up and is scheduled to meet with a specialist. Earlier in the week, he slid headfirst into first base and his back stiffened.

In 11 games since Youkilis came back from the initial injury, hes was hitting .146 iwith 13 strikeouts. His season average is .219 with two home runs.

The Yankees made several other roster moves, recalling outfielder Thomas Neal and right-hander Chris Bootcheck from Triple-A and sending down right-hander Adam Warren.
