Yankees lose Teixeira for 10-14 days

New York Yankees first baseman Mark Teixeira will miss an additional 10-14 days after he irritated his strained left calf Saturday night in a loss to the Baltimore Orioles.

An MRI and examination by team physician Dr. Chris Amhad on Monday in New York revealed the strain, the Yankees announced. Teixeira will be evaluated weekly through the rest of the season.

Teixeira had returned to the lineup Saturday and was trying to avoid a game-ending double play by diving headfirst into first base when the re-injury occurred. He was called out and the Yankees lost 5-4. He sat out the series finale Sunday against the Orioles.

Teixeira initially strained the calf Aug. 28 in a game against Toronto and had missed 10 games.

The veteran is hitting .255 with 23 home runs and 81 RBI in 120 games this season.
