Wyoming coach suspended, fined

Wyoming football coach Dave Christensen has been suspended for one week and fined $50,000 by the school for his actions following the Oct. 13 game against Air Force.

Christensen was reprimanded by the Mountain West Conference last Monday after a postgame altercation with Air Force coach Troy Calhoun following the Falcons' 28-27 win.

A YouTube video surfaced showing Christensen delivering a profanity-filled speech directed at Calhoun as the two coaches walked off the field.

Assistant coach Pete Kaligis will take over as interim head coach this week for for Saturday's game against Boise State.

"After a long and difficult week of consideration, I believe it was in the best interest of the university and our athletics department to take this action," Wyoming athletic director Tom Burman said at a press conference Monday, according to the Laramie Boomerang.

"The reputation of our university and of our athletics programs is of the upmost importance. Over the past week I have reviewed the contract situation with our university legal department, I have spoken numerous times with President Buchanan. It is important to send the right message to (the program) in terms of taking responsibility for your actions."

Wyoning is 1-6, including 0-3 in the Mountain West.
