The release Tuesday from the NCAA put a fresh smudge on the golden dome: Notre Dame had a student trainer who committed academic misconduct on behalf of two football players and provided impermissible academic benefits to six other football players. As a result of those actions, the NCAA is vacating the school's football victories in which those players participated in the 2012-13 and 2013-14 seasons. It's worth noting that the first of those seasons was the program's best since winning the 1988 national title – the Fighting Irish went 12-0 and advanced to the BCS Championship Game, whereupon they were bludgeoned by Alabama 42-14.
