Oregon fans bail at halftime as Washington runs wild in rout, ending 12-game losing streak to rival

It isn’t over until the fat lady sings. Or if a team hangs 35 points and opens a 28-point deficit in the first half.

The Washington Huskies pounded the Oregon Ducks to the tune of 70-21 in Eugene. Those 70 points are the most scored by Washington in one game in the modern era.

Revenge was on Washington’s mind, looking to avenge 12 straight losses to the Ducks. The halftime score of 35-7 was so deflating that many dismayed Oregon fans left the arena with an entire half left to play.

Mission accomplished.

The Huskies put forward a relentless rushing attack that rumbled for 379 yards, gaining 8.4 per carry. By the end of the game, Washington had destroyed Oregon with 682 total yards.

The Huskies are now 3-0 in Pac-12 play heading into their bye week.

Huskies quarterback Jake Browning threw for six touchdowns, setting a Washington record for most touchdowns thrown in one game and tying a Pac-12 record with eight total TDs. Myles Gaskin had himself a day as well, gaining a career-high 197 yards and gashing the Ducks for a blistering 12.3 yards per rushing attempt.

Even after building an insurmountable lead in the first half, the Huskies never let up. Instead of running out the clock, Washington head coach Chris Peterson elected to put more pressure on the Ducks, burying them in big play after big play through the air, including this ridiculous one-handed grab from Washington wide receiver Dante Pettis.

Pettis also finished with a career-high 134 yards and two touchdowns.

This win coupled with the victory against Pac-12 North rival Stanford puts Washington in the driver’s seat on top of the division with a lot of control in terms of its destiny.

The Huskies’ remaining schedule doesn’t appear to include anybody that can ruin their chances to at least getting their first Pac-12 championship game, or even getting to their first College Football Playoff. Utah is the only ranked opponent Washington has left.

After taking a week off, Washington will host Oregon State in Seattle.
