Vinny Magalhaes Forced Out of Titan FC 28 Main Event Due to Staph Infection
After having to withdraw from his Metamoris 3 grappling match, Vinnie Magalhaes has also been pulled from the Titan Fighting 28 main event.
MMAWeekly.com confirmed the development with Titan FC officials, after company president Jeff Aronson tweeted the news.
Magalhaes was slated to fight fellow UFC veteran Jason Brilz in the Titan FC 28 headliner on April 25 in Kansas City, but has been forced out due to complications from a staph infection.
Magalhaes first noticed the infection early last week, but even after a trip to the doctor and an initial prescription of antibiotics, the infection did not improve. It, in fact, got worse. So Magalhaes had to withdraw from his grappling bout with Keenan Cornelius.
With doctors thinking he may have a much more stubborn strain of staph infection known as MRSA, Magalhaes had to undergo a more intense antibiotic treatment.
The seriousness of the infection won’t allow for Magalhaes to train properly, even if the infection does clear up fairly soon, so Titan FC is moving forward to secure a replacement to fight Brilz.
Aside from trying to keep Brilz on the card against a new opponent, Titan FC 28 also features Daniel Roberts vs. Brock Jardine in a lightweight tilt, Ricky Legere vs. Todd Moore in a battle of welterweights, and a heavyweight showdown featuring D.J. Linderman and Dave Herman.
