Vince Wilfork's New England days appear over
Defensive tackle Vince Wilfork has been a longtime staple of the New England defense.
His imposing force inside has been instrumental to the Patriots' success on the defensive side of the ball. But like with anything, good things can come to an end. And with Wilfork unwilling to take a pay cut, it appears he could be on his way out in New England.
According to a report from The Boston Herald, Wilfork has already cleaned out his locker in anticipation of heading elsewhere this offseason. Owner Bob Kraft is still hoping for the best with Wilfork, telling reporters that the Patriots are still trying to figure out a way to keep him on their roster.
“We’ve been very close and I’ll let Vince speak to whatever he feels is appropriate," Kraft said, via The Boston Herald. "We’re probably results-oriented and life is about execution so either we get it done or we don’t,'' Kraft said. "I very much hope we get it done, and I believe he very much would like to do it as well. We’ve been so lucky to have him. So we’ll see what happens.”
On Tuesday, Patriots coach Bill Belichick declined to talk about Wilfork when asked.
Wilfork has spent all 10 of his NFL seasons with the Patriots. He's accumulated 469 total tackles, 16 sacks, 23 pass deflections and two interceptions in his career.
