VIDEO: Leafs prospect Antoine Bibeau makes incredible diving save

Many NHL teams are getting a good look at their prospects at various rookie tournaments across the U.S. and Canada this week. These games offer teams and fans a nice little appetizer before training camps open. Occasionally, they deliver some sensational highlights, too.

The latest comes from the rookie tournament in London, Ont., in a game between prospects for the Toronto Maple Leafs and Pittsburgh Penguins. If this game counted for anything, Maple Leafs goalie prospect Antoine Bibeau would absolutely be on the “saves of the year” highlight reel. Lucky for us, the cameras were rolling to at least get it up on YouTube.

Penguins forward prospect Bryan Rust had himself a yawning net after a puck deflected just in front of Bibeau. With no time to recover, Bibeau lunged with his glove outstretched and got just enough of the puck to stop its momentum and corral it in the big trapper.

Making the initial stop and having the presence of mind to be able to get that thing under wraps in such a short time really makes you respect the reflexes of goaltenders.

Bibeau, who the Maple Leafs selected in the sixth round at the 2013 NHL Entry Draft, should be hoping to make the Toronto Marlies in the American Hockey League this year. He helped backstop the Val-d’Or Foreurs to the QMJHL title last season.
