Twins' Diamond has bone chips removed from elbow

Minnesota left-hander Scott Diamond had surgery Tuesday to remove a bone chip from his left elbow but plans to be recovered in time for spring training.

Dr. David Altchek performed the arthroscopic procedure on Diamond in New York, Twins general manager Terry Ryan said.

"He'll be ready for spring training," Ryan said. "But he will not participate in the World Baseball Classic."

Diamond was to play for Team Canada in the Classic.

The 26-year-old, who was called up to the Twins in May from triple-A, won 12 games and posted a 3.54 ERA in 27 starts over 173 innings in 2012.
