Try not to cry as this hard-working kid gets rewarded with Cubs tickets

Nothing quite pulls at the heart strings like a hard-working young kid getting a surprise so great from his parents that it brings him to tears. And that’s just what 9-year-old Kolt Kyler got this weekend.

Kolt, a huge Chicago Cubs fan who lives with his family on a farm in Pierceton, Ind., was surprised by his mom and dad with a pair of tickets for his first-ever trip to Wrigley Field. The moment in which Andy Kyler surprises his son with the tickets was captured on video by mom Natalie Kyler and shared on Twitter by his sister, Hannah Himes. And if it doesn’t make you feel a little bit emotional, you might not be human.

In the early part of the video, Andy explains that Kolt has been working hard lately without complaining. Then there’s this admirable moment where Kolt shows his dedication to doing whatever his family needs from him.

“This is something here that you and I are going to do and it’s going to take a whole day to do it. Do you want to do it?” Andy asks. Kolt says yes, not even knowing what it is. It could have been more work around the farm, but he was ready.

Instead, it’s tickets for a Cubs game in June. When Kolt sees his reward, he jumps up and down and immediately breaks into tears.

“Me and Daddy are going to Wrigley Field,” he says to his mom, through tears, then hugs his dad again and says, “Thank you.”

Kolt’s sister Hannah tells The Stew that her brother watches every Cubs game and even DVRs the ones that are on after his bedtime. His favorite players are Anthony Rizzo and Addison Russell. He plays travel baseball and he’s involved in Cub Scouts and 4-H, plus he does great in school.

“His work ethic is amazing,” Hannah says of her little brother. “He’s been carrying around a bat, ball, and glove since he could walk.”

So it sounds like not only does Kolt deserve that first trip to Wrigley Field, but he’ll cherish it too.
