Timberwolves' Kevin Love re-fractures hand, to meet with specialistBy The Sports Xchange | The SportsXchange – Sat, Jan 5, 2013 9:30 PM EST
The news continued to get worse for the injury-riddled Minnesota Timberwolves on Saturday as it was learned that forward Kevin Love will be lost for the second time this season after re-fracturing the third metacarpal in his right hand. An MRI revealed the injury, which occurred during the third quarter of the Wolves game in Denver Thursday. Love is slated to see Dr. Andy Weiland, a specialist in New York, in the coming days. Then a course of action -- which could include possible surgery -- will be announced. It is the same injury Love suffered on Oct. 17. He missed three weeks after that, and when he returned, it appeared to affect his shooting somewhat. Love was leading the team in scoring at 18.3 and 14.0 rebounds in 18 games. The Timberwolves have struggled with injuries during much of the first half of the season. In addition to Love's new injury, Ricky Rubio, who missed the first 20 games of the season recovering from knee surgery, missed his fourth straight game Saturday with back spasms. Other players still sidelined by knee injuries include Brandon Roy, Malcolm Lee and Chase Budinger. Josh Howard suffered a season-ending knee injury in late December and was then waived by the team.
