Tigers introduce high-stakes twist to rock-paper-scissors
Rock-paper-scissors is one of the all-time classic games. It remains the most democratic way of making coin-flip decisions, and the most fun too.
The Detroit Tigers are a team full of grown men, but they certainly haven’t forgotten their roots on the playground, as evidence by Ian Kinsler and Jose Iglesias going head-to-head in rock-paper-scissors before their game Wednesday afternoon in Boston, courtesy of Justin Verlander’s Instagram account:

Now that’s one way to raise the stakes of a relatively tame game. Kinsler’s scissors beats Iglesias’ paper and then– whack! – Kinsler wallops Iglesias over the head with an empty five-gallon water jug as their teammates roared with laughter. Miguel Cabrera, who also posted a video of the showdown on Instagram, appeared to take particular delight in the result.
Those who play rock-paper-scissors together win together? The Tigers beat the Red Sox 4-3 to stretch their winning streak to three games and keep them hanging around the American League playoff picture.
