Theo Epstein and Cubs players serenade crowd atop Murphy's Bleachers

The Chicago Cubs celebration isn’t over yet. After winning their first World Series since 1908 on Wednesday night in Cleveland, it’s been one extended party covering two cities and one flight.

The celebration likely peaked on Friday, when the team held its long-anticipated championship parade through Chicago culminating with a rally at Grant Park. But it was still raging Friday night. That’s especially true in Wrigleyville, and specifically at Murphy’s Bleachers, where team president Theo Epstein and pitchers John Lackey, Travis Wood and Mike Montgomery gathered to celebrate with the fans, dance on the roof and sing.

Yes, you read that correctly. They gathered with fans, they danced on Murphy’s roof, and they serenaded fans with “Go, Cubs, Go” and “We Are The Champions,” because why the heck not?

Sports celebrations are always fun. This one though, it’s a level above for all the reasons that have been documented since the clincher on Wednesday night. We’re all witnessing something truly special. The team and the fans though, they’re living it, and we don’t expect them to stop living it anytime soon.

Oh sure, it might slow down some when the reality of a new work week kicks in, but now that “next year” is finally here, there’s always next weekend.
