Texans audition Joe Mays

Cut by the Denver Broncos recently, middle linebacker Joe Mays tried out for the Houston Texans today, according to the Houston Chronicle.

Mays was cut rather than pay him a $4 million base salary, $500,000 of which was guaranteed.

Per the report, the Texans are thin at inside linebacker due to injuries.

Star linebacker Brian Cushing is still recuperating from knee surgery, and Darryl Sharpton is on the non-football injury list with a groin injury.

Mays met recently with the Washington Redskins, but wasn't offered a contract.
