Strikeforce: Rousey vs. Kaufman Confirmed for August in San Diego

It’s been all but a foregone conclusion, but Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker on Tuesday confirmed that bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey will indeed square off with No. 1 contender Sarah Kaufman on Aug. 18 in San Diego at the Valley View Casino Center.

The fight between Rousey and Kaufman has been anticipated ever since Rousey’s first-round submission of then-champion Miesha Tate back in March.

Rousey (5-0) has quickly become one of the most magnetic personalities in mixed martial arts, rocketing into the spotlight with a brash personality and five first-round armbar submissions in five tries to back it up.

Kaufman (15-1) will likely be the toughest test to date in Rousey’s blossoming career. Kaufman has slipped only once in her career, losing to a very tough Marloes Coenen. She has, however, defeated many of the top fighters in her weight class, including Alexis Davis, Liz Carmouche, Roxanne Modafferi, Miesha Tate, and Shayna Baszler.

Strikeforce: Rousey vs. Kaufman, as reported by MMAWeekly.com, will also feature a fight between former Strikeforce middleweight champion Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza and Derek Brunson.
