Steelers' Wallace hit with fines

Pittsburgh Steelers center Cody Wallace was fined $17,875 by the NFL for two infractions during last Sunday's 34-28 loss to the Miami Dolphins.

Wallace was docked $7,875 for hitting Dolphins defensive tackle Randy Starks in the groin area while Starks was face-down on the ground after he recovered a fumble by Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger.

The fourth-year player from Texas A&M argued that he was trying to reach for the football on the play.

"I was trying to get under the pile and get a hand on the football," Wallace told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. "Unfortunately, I didn't get low enough. As soon as I realized what was happening, I definitely stopped. It's unfortunate it looks that way and came out that way."

"I thought I was going to be able to get under there and I wasn't able to and I wasn't able to get a hand on the football. when he kind of started kicking around, I realized I wasn't going to make it there."

Wallace also was fined $10,00 for unnecessary roughness after striking an opponent following the whistle on a separate play.
