Splendora boys basketball completes epic comeback with 19-0 fourth quarter

Things were looking bleak for Splendora (Texas) in a Tuesday night game on the road against Tarkington (Cleveland, Texas).

Courtesy photoThey were down 44-28 entering the final eight minutes and had trailed just about the whole way. Even if they managed to hold Tarkington to absolutely no points in the final quarter, they were still going to have to score more points than they had in any of the previous three quarters.

So they did just that.

According to the Cleveland Advocate, the Wildcats scored 19 points in the final quarter and held the Longhorns scoreless to steal the 47-44 victory. A free throw from Troy James tied the contest with a little more than a minute left, then Tommy Collins drilled a 3-pointer to put his team in the lead and cap off the spectacular comeback.

Coach Jason Vela told the newspaper, “We just fed off of the energy toward the end.”

Whatever that energy was, they should try to keep eating it.
