Sources: Charlotte acquires Mo Williams as part of trade with Minnesota

The Charlotte Hornets are determined to make the Eastern Conference playoffs and strengthened their roster Tuesday with a deal to acquire Minnesota guard Mo Williams, league sources told Yahoo Sports.

Williams goes to the Hornets with guard Troy Daniels for veteran guard Gary Neal and a future second-round draft pick, sources told Yahoo Sports.

Charlotte will send Minnesota a 2019 second-round pick that it owns via a 2014 trade with the Miami Heat.

Williams gives the Hornets a guard to bridge the three-plus weeks left on Kemba Walker’s recovery from knee surgery and then will join Walker in a guard rotation that will no longer necessitate Charlotte playing the mistake-prone Lance Stephenson at point guard.

Williams, 32, averaged 12.2 points and 6.4 assists for the Timberwolves, including a 52-point performance in mid-January.

Charlotte is tied for seventh in the Eastern Conference with a 22-29 record.
