Shae Simmons unlikely to pitch again this season

Braves pitcher Shae Simmons has not thrown a ball since Aug. 20 due to a strained right shoulder, and at this point it does not appear as if he will be able to pitch in the majors again this season, reports MLB.com Friday.

"He hasn't even gotten back on the mound yet," manager Fredi Gonzalez said. "There is no reason to push him."

The Braves have little more than three weeks remaining in the regular season, and the team is moving forward as if Simmons will not pitch again until next season, Gonzalez and general manager Frank Wren acknowledged.

Simmons had a 2.91 ERA in 21 2/3 innings for the Braves this season before suffering the injury in July.
