RWC2015 EXCLUSIVE FAN BLOG: David Reid’s ultimate fan cam experience

One lucky rugby fan continued his unique and incredible journey through the 2015 Rugby World Cup as winner of Canterbury’s Ultimate Fan Cam experience with his fourth big day out - the 2015 Rugby World Cup Final itself

David Reid's fourth fan cam experience took in the World Cup Final itself

As Rugby World Cup 2015 light up the nation, one lucky rugby fan continued his own unique and quite incredible journey across the tournament.

David Reid, a rugby fanatic from Rotherham, embarked on a RWC 2015 experience like no other, which saw him attend every stage of the tournament from the opening ceremony right through to the Final on the 31st October. On his journey he attended the group stages, the quarter-finals and semi-finals before he took his seat at Twickenham for the biggest match in world rugby.

Yahoo Sport teamed up with David to bring you the exclusive view on the Rugby World Cup from the eyes of the supporters.

David Reid is the lucky winner of Canterbury’s Ultimate Fan Cam experience, set up to reward the nation’s most committed rugby fan with the incredible experience he is now undertaking.

The Final

The buzz in London Town was electric! Brass bands were playing and the vibe and atmosphere of the Trafalgar Square Rugby World Cup Fan Zone was magnificent.

A video of my Ultimate Fan Cam Experience had been played on the big screen throughout the weekend and today I was going onto the main stage to have an interview with the Fan Zone host.

I had knots in my stomach but I kept myself cool and calm as I walked up the five steps to the stage. It went really well as I spoke about what an amazing journey I had been on thanks to Canterbury, and about how this has been the best six weeks of my life. As I came off the stage it was straight into a black cab and off to Twickenham.

As we neared the ground fans from all around the world were heading towards the stadium or the fan zone in Richmond to soak up the build-up to the biggest game in world rugby.

I jumped out of the cab with my wife and picked up a programme before meeting ex England 7s captain Ollie Philips. We spoke about how we thought the day would go. Ollie was split, but thought the All Blacks would edge it (Ollie’s ex-coach is the Australia coach at present, hence the split).

We left Ollie and headed over to Gate A where Canterbury had arranged for us to meet somebody very important, the one and only Will Greenwood. It was an absolute pleasure to meet him, he is a proper gent, and a great ambassador for Canterbury and the sport. The build-up around the stadium was the best I have ever witnessed. Bands were playing, drinks were flowing, and fans mixed and mingle together having a great time.

As game time approached the feeling the ground intensified as we made our way to the most incredible seats. I met Kevin Sinfield, a rugby league legend, and who is also an ambassador for Canterbury, and same as Will, a great guy.

The game was brilliant and getting to see the All Blacks on top form against a great Australia team was magic. In the end we know what happened, and it was a great way for 7 All Blacks legends of the game to sign off.

We stayed around the ground after the game to take in the stadium and Rugby World Cup 2015 for one last time. It really has been the most fantastic experience. A huge thank you to Canterbury for the unforgettable memories you have given me. Now it's back to my local club, and the grassroots, where I will be, as always #CommittedToTheGame
