Russell earns praise after Bears workout

The reviews are in and JaMarcus Russell impressed more than a few people when he worked out on Friday with the Chicago Bears.

The former No. 1 overall draft pick, who flamed out of the NFL drew positive reviews, ESPNChicago.com reported. Russell lost some weight -- he was "down" to the 265-pound range and showed of a "big arm" and a "good, positive demeanor."

But along with not playing since 2009, Russell's timing was off and was not accurate.

Yet, it was apparent that Russell had worked hard to make the most out of this opportunity.

Former NFL quarterback Jeff Garcia has been working with Russell since January. At that time, Russell weighed 315 pounds.

And while Russell received positive feedback for Friday's performance, it is doubtful the Bears will offer him a contract. They already have Jay Cutler, Josh McCown and Matt Blanchard under contract.

Russell won seven of 25 starts during his Raiders career. In three seasons with Oakland, he threw 18 touchdowns and 23 interceptions.

The NFL Network said Russell would like to sign with an NFL team that has a veteran quarterback that could mentor him. The Canadian Football League also is an option.
