Royals acquire Carroll
The Kansas City Royals acquired infielder Jamey Carroll from the Minnesota Twins for a player to be named later or cash considerations.
Carroll is hitting .230 and went 1-for-4 for the Twins on Sunday before being traded after the game.
He said he's "excited" to go to a team in playoff contention.
Carroll can play second base, third base or shortstop, and figures to serve as a late-game defensive replacement.
Carroll, 39, is earning $3.75 million this year and has a $2 million club option with a $250,000 buyout remaining on his contract.
