Rockies get LHP Anderson from A's for LHP Pomeranz
ORLANDO, Fla. -- The Colorado Rockies are gambling that Brett Anderson can regain his rookie form.
The Rockies acquired the left-handed pitcher from the Oakland Athletics on Tuesday in a trade for left-hander Drew Pomeranz and minor league right-hander Chris Jensen.
The Athletics also agreed to pay $2 million of Anderson's $8 million salary in 2014.
Anderson, 25, won 11 games in 2009 but just 15 in the last four seasons, many of which have been ruined by injury. He was the Athletics' opening-day starter this year when he went 1-4 with a 6.04 ERA in 16 games, including five starts, and was sidelined for a large part of the season by a stress fracture in his right foot.
Anderson is 26-29 with a 3.81 ERA over five seasons.
Pomeranz, 25, was 4-14 with a 5.20 ERA in three seasons with the Rockies, including 0-4 with a 6.23 ERA this year in eight games, including four starts.
Jensen, 23, went 5-8 with 4.55 in 28 starts for high Class A Modesto this past season.
The trade was made during the second day of baseball's Winter Meetings at the Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin Resort.
