Rockies to interview Giambi for managerial opening

Jason Giambi apparently believes his is ready to transition into managing.

The Colorado bench player is scheduled to interview for the vacant Rockies managerial job, according to a Denver Post report, No date has been announced.

Giambi, 41, finished his 18th year in the big leagues and fourth with Colorado this season. Injuries limited him to 60 games. He had hernia surgery last week and seemed to be planning to return.

Rockies bench coach Tom Runnells has already interviewed for the job.

Jim Tracy resigned after 2012's 98-loss season.

Giambi has no coaching experience. He is a career .280 hitter with 429 home runs in a career that began with the Oakland Athletics.
