Buzzing on Yahoo Sports:

Reyes didn't see trade coming

Shortstop Jose Reyes expressed shock and dismay Friday over the offseason trade that sent him from Miami to Toronto. In particular, he's not happy with Marlins owner Jeffrey Loria.

Reyes said at the Blue Jays' training complex in Dunedin, Fla., that the deal blindsided him. Days before he was shipped to Toronto, Reyes recalled Loria encouraging him to purchase a home in the Miami area.

"I was shocked because Jeffrey Loria, he always told me he's never going to trade me," Reyes said. "He always called my agent and said, 'Tell Jose to get a good place here to live,' and stuff like that.

"I mean, how can you want me to spend some money in Miami, when I have my house in New York, and you're going to trade me in two days?"

Reyes, 29, had just completed his first season with the Marlins after sigining a signed a six-year, $106 million contract. But now that he's with the Blue Jays, it's time to move on.

"I'm here in spring training, looking forward to getting on the field with my new team," he said. "It is what it is."

Reyes hasn't spoken with Loria or Marlins management since the trade, which was part of a $70 million offseason payroll purge.

"I feel sorry for the fan base there in Miami because they had a great fan base there," Reyes said. "To let them down like that, I mean, that's going to be tough for them."
