Reports: A's sign shortstop Nakajima

The A's went overseas to find a shortstop replacement for Stephen Drew, signing Japanese player Hiroyuki Nakajima to a two-year, $6.5 million contract, the San Francisco Chronicle reported.

The deal includes a $5.5 million option for 2015.

Nakajima, 30, hit .311 with 13 homers and 74 RBIs for the Seibu Lions last season in the Japanese League.

He was second in the Pacific League in batting average.

The Yankees had won Nakajima's rights last year, but he decided to return to Japan for another year.

The A's needed a replacement at shortstop after Drew signed with the Red Sox.
