Report: Gregg Williams agrees to join Titans' staff, pending reinstatement

Former New Orleans Saints defensive coordinator Gregg Williams has agreed to become an assistant head coach for defense for the Tennessee Titans, CBSSports.com reported Sunday, based on league source.

Williams cannot be officially added to the Titans staff until he is reinstated to the league after being suspended for a year as a result of his part in the Bountygate affair.

NFL commissioner Roger Goodell is expected to meet with Williams next week to discuss his reinstatement.

It's unclear the exact role Williams would fill with his title of assistant head coach-defense, but presumably he would act as defensive coordinator.

This would be Williams' second stint with the Titans, having previously served as an assistant coach there from 1997 to 2000, when he served under then Titans coach Jeff Fisher, now coach of the St. Louis Rams.
