Report: Cotton Bowl favorite to host title game in '15

The Cotton Bowl has emerged as the favorite to host the first national championship game on Jan. 12, 2015, ESPN reported Monday.

The College Football Bowl Subdivision will begin a four-team playoff system after the 2014 regular season. The Rose and Sugar bowls will host the national semifinals on Jan. 1, 2015, with the winners facing off in the national title game.

Under a 12-year deal, the Rose and Sugar bowls will be played every Jan. 1, even if they are not hosting the national semifinals. The two bowls will host the semifinals four times. When the semifinals are hosted by other bowls, they will reportedly be moved to Dec. 31. The exception is if Jan. 1 falls on a Sunday, the Rose and Sugar bowls will be moved to Dec. 31 and the semifinals moved to Dec. 30.

Six bowls will rotate as national semifinals hosts. The others are reportedly the Orange, Cotton, Fiesta and Chick-fil-A bowls.
