Red Sox outfielder Ross out with broken foot
Boston Red Sox outfielder Cody Ross will be out indefinitely with a broken foot, the team announced Monday, adding to the Red Sox injury problems with their outfielders.
Ross has a non-displaced fracture of the navicular bone in his left foot, and presumably will become the sixth Boston outfielder on the disabled list, along with Jacoby Ellsbury, Carl Crawford, Darnell McDonald, Ryan Kalish and Jason Repko.
The Red Sox probably will wait until Tuesday to put Ross on the DL, after the results of an MRI are examined.
"It's a small fracture, it's non-displaced," general manager Ben Cherington told MLB.com. "It should heal without any sort of surgical intervention. We just have to let it heal and we'll get him back as soon as we can. It's hard to say [how long Ross will be out]. Six to eight weeks is sort of a general framework. We've just got to let him heal and see how he does."
Ross conceivable could pinch-hit in Monday's game, but it's unlikely.
Ross sustained the injury while fouling a ball off his left foot in Friday's 6-4 loss to the Phillies.
Ross is hitting .271 with eight homers and 28 RBIs.
