Ravens Stat of the Week: Smith has great hands

The importance of wide receiver Steve Smith Sr. to the Baltimore Ravens offense is obvious just one look at the record book shows he is one of the best in the business.

• Passed Hall of Fame WR Marvin Harrison (14,580) for seventh place on the all-time receiving yards chart (now has 14,618), when he hauled in a 34-yard TD reception in the Ravens 27-26 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles.

• Ranks seventh on the NFL’s all-time combined yards chart with 19,067 yards (14,618 receiving; 2,371 KOR; 1,684 PR; 387 rushing and 7 fumble recovery)

• Smith Sr. and recent Hall of Fame inductee WR Tim Brown are the only players in NFL history to eclipse 13,000 receiving yards and 4,000 return yards…Smith Sr. and Brown are also the only players ever to post 900 catches and score a rushing, receiving, PR & KOR TD

Don’t look now Baltimore Ravens fans but Steve Smith Sr. is closing in on another milestone in the record books when it comes to 100 yard receiving games by a wide receiver. WR Steve Smith Sr. ranks first among active WRs and is tied for fourth in NFL history with 51-career 100-yard receiving games. Smith Sr. also ranks second (with 8 such games) in Baltimore Ravens history. If Steve Smith Sr is able to give himself and the Ravens the Christmas present of a 100 yard receiving game against the archrival Steelers he will tie former Raven wide receiver Mark Clayton for the most hundred yard receiving games in Ravens history with nine. One interesting thing about that achievement is that Clayton accomplished the same milestone in 76 games well Steve Smith Sr has a chance to tie that record in just 35 games.
