Police say woman lied about Chapman room theft

The woman who claimed she was robbed while waiting in Aroldis Chapman's hotel room in Pittsburgh last month has been charged with filing a false police report, according to a USA Today report.

Claudia Manrique, 26, of Silver Spring, Md., originally told Pittsburgh police she was alone when a man posing as a maintenance worker attacked her on May 29 while she waited for Chapman, who was in town for a game against the Pirates.

She claimed she was tied up by an unknown assailant who made off with about $6,000 in jewelry and other items.

According to the paper, Manrique changed her story multiple times during the 12-hour interview, failed a polygraph and began sobbing during the interrogation.

Chapman told detectives that he met the woman in April in Washington, D.C., and he would arrange for Manrique to fly to Pittsburgh in May.
