Planned outfield changes latest Astros to irk Berkman
Former Astros slugger Lance Berkman has been on record with his displeasure with Houston's move to the American League next season.
He added another item to his list of what's wrong with the Astros: the changes in the outfield at Minute Maid Park.
"I hate the move to the American League and I hate what they're doing to the outfield," the former Astro said Wednesday as he was back in St. Louis before going on a rehab assignment in Memphis.
The Astros' new ownership has replaced the Citgo sign above the Crawford Boxes with 12 panels for advertising sponsors and is considering moving the signature train from above left-center field and making changes to Tal's Hill in center.
Berkman, who was among the first of the high-priced vets and links to the Astros' 2005 World Series team to be traded when he was shipped in 2010 to the Yankees, has watched the continued dismantling of the team. When Wandy Rodriguez was traded to Pittsburgh in July, it meant no players remained from that era.
"I'm sad to see a lot of guys with strong ties to the organization go," said Berkman, who won a World Series with the Cardinals last season but has been sidelined with knee problems for most of this season.
