Detroit Pistons guard Rodney Stuckey is sidelined indefinitely after breaking his right thumb in an off-the-court accident.

The digit was caught in the door jamb of Stuckey's car when the door closed, causing a distal phalanx fracture, the team announced. After an X-ray revealed the injury, the Pistons scheduled Stuckey for surgery on Friday. A timetable for his return is expected to be announced after the operation.

Stuckey, 27, is entering his seventh season out of Eastern Washington. Last season, he averaged 11.5 points, 3.6 assists and 2.8 rebounds in 76 games. For his career, he averages 13.4 points, 4.2 points and 3.1 assists.

According to the Detroit News, Stuckey will be a free agent following the upcoming season.
