Pippen won't face assault charges
No assault charges will be filed against former Chicago Bulls guard Scottie Pippen after an incident at a restaurant in Malibu, Calif., in June.
The Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office decided against pursuing the case because of insufficient evidence to prove a crime was committed, the Chicago Tribune reported Tuesday.
Pippen, a member of the NBA Hall of Fame, was leaving a restaurant with his family when Camran Shafighi, 49, took pictures of him and asked for an autograph. Pippen said the man spat and cursed at him and that Shafighi pushed him away with a horizontal arm movement.
Shafighi alleged that Pippen punched him in the mouth, spat on him and kicked him until he was unconscious and wound up in a hospital with a head injury. Prosecutors indicated that Shafighi's blood-alcohol level was more than twice the legal driving limit at the time.
Shafighi filed a $4 million lawsuit against Pippen claiming the altercation was a "brutal and unjustified physical attack."
