New England Patriots defensive end Rob Ninkovich agreed to a contract extension through 2016, ESPN.com reported Sunday.
Ninkovich, who starts on the right side, was in the final year of his contract. His extension reportedly includes more than $8 million in bonus and guaranteed money.
The 29-year-old has 14.5 sacks over the last two seasons and has started every game for the Patriots in that span. He is an every-down player who is also effective against the run.
Ninkovich was drafted in the fifth round by the New Orleans Saints in 2006 and served as a long snapper. He signed with the Patriots in 2009. Since coming to New England, he has evolved from a backup and special teams player to a starter.
