Panthers sign quarterback Joe Webb to one-year deal
The Carolina Panthers have signed former Minnesota Vikings quarterback Joe Webb to a one-year contract.
They also signed cornerback Antoine Cason and wide receiver Tiquan Underwood.
An athletic former sixth-round draft pick, Webb has played both quarterback and wide receiver for the Vikings.
He will play quarterback in Carolina, the team announced.
The former Alabama-Birmingham standout has completed 88-of-152 career passes for 853 yards and three touchdowns and five interceptions.
Webb arrives after starter Cam Newton had ankle surgery this week. Derek Anderson was re-signed last week to back up Newton.
"Joe had a strong workout for us today. He is a young player who intrigues us and has a similar skill set to Cam (Newton)," Panthers coach Ron Rivera said. "With Cam sidelined for the spring, it is an opportunity to get a good evaluation of Joe as well as Matt Blanchard, who was on our practice squad last year."
