Panthers drop DT Edwards from roster

The Carolina Panthers released defensive tackle Ron Edwards, the team announced Friday.

Edwards started 11 games last year and had 16 tackles and one sack before suffering a season-ending elbow injury.

"We appreciate the contributions that Ron has made to the Panthers the past two seasons," coach Ron Rivera said. "He set a great example on and off the field for our young players and we wish him well moving forward."

Edwards sat out the 2011 season because of a triceps injury.

The 12-year veteran also has played for Buffalo and Kansas City. logging 239 tackles and 16.5 sacks in 139 regular-season games.
