Oklahoma State 58, Purdue 14

DALLAS -- Oklahoma State quarterback Clint Chelf threw for three touchdowns as the Cowboys routed Purdue 58-14 in the Heart of Dallas Bowl on Tuesday at the Cotton Bowl.

Oklahoma State (8-5) also scored 21 points off turnovers in snapping a two-game losing streak this season and extending its bowl winning streak to three. The Cowboys have gone to a school-record seven consecutive bowl games under coach Mike Gundy, going 5-2 during that span.

Purdue (6-7) was back in a bowl for the second straight year, but the Boilermakers finished the season with a losing record. Purdue was riding a three-game winning streak going into Dallas.

Chelf carved up the Big Ten representatives from the start, throwing for two touchdowns in the first quarter alone and adding another in the third in winning the Heart of Dallas Bowl MVP. The junior signal caller completed 17 of 22 passes for 197 yards.

Freshman backup quarterback J.W. Walsh also had two scoring tosses.

The Boilermakers nearly matched Oklahoma State from a yardage standpoint in the first half, but two turnovers and struggles on third down stifled Purdue drives. The Boilermakers fumbled the ball six times -- losing three -- and had five turnovers.

Purdue leading rusher Akeem Shavers was productive with 93 yards and quarterback Robert Marve had 189 yards passing, but the Boilermakers were never in position to score while the game was still in reach.

The Oklahoma State offense didn't have to go far to get on the scoreboard thanks to a 64-yard punt return from Josh Stewart in the first quarter. The sophomore fielded the kick on his 17, cut back several times and raced down the middle of the field to the Purdue 29.

Four plays later, Chelf found junior receiver Charlie Moore from 5 yards out for a touchdown midway through the first period.

Chelf had another short field to work with on the next possession after an interception by Shamiel Gary set the Cowboys up on the Purdue 26. It took four plays again for Chelf to find tight end Blake Jackson on another short score.

The Cowboys added another two touchdowns in the second quarter to take a 28-0 lead into the locker room. Walsh hit tight end Jeremy Seaton on a 16-yard touchdown and running back Jeremy Smith easily scored from the 5.

The Cowboys added to their lead early in the third quarter, as the defense got into the act. A completed pass by Purdue turned into disaster, as OSU cornerback Justin Gilbert knocked the ball free from Boilermaker receiver O.J. Ross. Cowboys safety Daytawion Lowe scooped up the loose ball and raced 37 yards down the sideline.

The most impressive touchdown throw from Chelf came in the third, a 37-yarder pushing the lead to 45-0. Senior receiver Isaiah Anderson hauled in a perfectly lofted ball between two receivers in the back corner of the end zone.

Purdue avoided a shutout with Marve's 32-yard pass to running back Brandon Cottom late in third quarter.
